BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting


  • India along with other BRICS nations called on all states to prevent the financing of terrorist networks and terrorist actions from their territories during the meeting of the BRICS Foreign Ministers in Brazil.
  • India was represented by Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways VK Singh.
  • BRICS consists of 5 nations Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Western Railways first printing press heritage gallery opened at Mahalaxmi, Mumbai


  • Western Railways (WR) opened its first printing press heritage gallery named Western Railway Mahalaxmi General Stores Depot (GSD) at Mahalaxmi in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was inaugurated by V P Pathak, Member (Materials Management) of the Railway Board.
  • It became the  1st press in Indian Railways to portray a heritage gallery of the printing and allied machines used in the Western Railway Printing Press since 1948.
  • The press came into existence in 1912 under the Greater Indian Peninsular Railway (GIP) Bombay, as the railway was in need of stationery and tickets to run the operations. In 1953, it was shifted to GSD Mahalaxmi at the WR.
Iran tests Medium-Range Missile: US Official


  • United States military official reported Iran test-launched Shahab-3, a Medium-Range Ballistic Missile inside its borders.
  • The missile was launched from the southern coast of Iran and landed east of Tehran.
  • It flew about 1,100 km, however, it did not pose a threat to U.S. or other Western military or shipping bases in the region.

Jordan opens its first underwater military museum.


  • Jordan, an Arab country in Western Asia, opened its first Underwater Military Museum Dive Site, off its Red Sea coast. The objective of the museum is to offer a new type of museum experience combining sports, environment, and exhibits for divers, snorkelers and visitors on glass-bottomed boats
  • The vehicles, including tanks, troop carriers and a helicopter, imitating a battle formation, have been stationed at a coral reef in the Red Sea.
  • Aqaba is the lone port city of Jordan and is a popular destination for divers.
 Kaiga Atomic Energy station sets a World record



  • Kaiga Atomic Energy station (Karnataka) sets a World Record in the continuous operation of 962 days by Unit-1 of Kaiga Generating Station (KGS-1) among nuclear power plants of all technologies.
  • KGS-1 (220 MW) in an indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) fuelled by domestic fuel which started commercial operation on November 16, 2000.
Apple to acquire Intel’s smartphone modem business for a transaction value of $1 billion



  • Apple and Intel signed an agreement where Apple will acquire the majority of Intel’s smartphone modem business for $1 billion. 
  • 2,200 Intel employees will join Apple, along with intellectual property, equipment, and leases.
  • The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter (December) of 2019. 
ADB sanctions about Rs 2000 Cr for power projects in Tripura




  • Asian Development Bank has sanctioned 1,925 crore rupees project for upgradation of power generation and distribution in Tripura.
  • The amount was recently sanctioned to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited.
  • The project has been sanctioned for upgrading capacity of 63 MW Rokhia Project to 120 MW at an estimated cost of over 699 crores and modernizing Gumti Hydro Electric Project at an estimated cost of nearly 1225 crore rupees.
  • Rokhia project is located at West Tripura district whereas the Gumti project is in Gomati district.
