The
Universal Periodic Review report on Human Rights in Sri Lanka prepared
by a group of three countries and Chaired by India last November, was
unanimously adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council in
Geneva today after a short debate.
United States and United Kingdom delegates expressed serious concern at the non-implementation of Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission Report in true spirit.
Sri Lankan President's Special Envoy on Human Rights, Mr Mahinda Samarsinghe said that the recommendations will be incorporated in the national plans and programme of action so that progress can be seen at the time of next review of Sri Lanka's record in 2017. Resolution against Sri Lanka by the US is likely to be discussed by UNHRC on the 20th of this month.
